UNADILLA – After officially opening the Unadilla Veterans Memorial just under a year ago during a June 14, 2016 Flag Day dedication ceremony, members of the Unadilla Veterans Committee have already made significant improvements and modifications to the monument.
In 2016 Unadilla mayor, David Welch, outlined the process of bringing the memorial from idea to reality, saying it was conceived of as a way to “recognize those people who served our nation and community.” At the dedication ceremony, Welch added, “For way too Unadilla has not had a monument to recognize that sacrifice.”
Now, noting that “the committee has been busy the last few weeks,” Welch said the monument underwent improvements just in time for last weekend’s Memorial Day goings on. In addition to incorporating the words “all gave some, some gave all” into the memorial, the committee has installed two new benches alongside the main structure and crested the monument with an enlarged eagle statue.
