AFTON – Ones-Self Design, owned and operated by Melissa Matthews, recently relocated from Unadilla to downtown Afton and Matthews, together with the Greater Afton Area Chamber of Commerce, friends and family, enjoyed a June 10 ribbon cutting to celebrate the business’s new 175 Main St. home and membership within the chamber.
Over the past 13 years, Ones-Self Design has come to specialize in “offering identifiable, one-of-a-kind graphical consistency” on marketing materials and merchandise for area businesses, civic groups and individuals. While Mathews will continue to offer the same design and promotional services from her Afton space, she said the move will mean growth and change, too.
“The difference is I’ll be trying to create more of a retail atmosphere here,” said Matthews. Noting the selection of unique greeting cards and postcards featuring local landscapes alongside area news publications and inspirational “Odd Little Messages” gift packs already in stock, Matthews said, “I definitely have more up my sleeve.” Matthews shared that she will be renting a second space in Afton exclusively to handle Ones-Self Design production demands.
Recalling making the leap from online outfit to brick-and-mortar business, Matthews said, “It was not until I took the business offline and started working within the community that I was able to get to this level.” From there, Matthews said the decision to link up with her community’s chamber of commerce was a no-brainer. “I made the decision to join the chamber because it seemed like the smartest networking investment any budding business could choose,” said Matthews, adding, “It has boosted my client base exponentially.”
